Israel Attacks Iran—Nuclear Sites Target

During the overnight hours of June 12-13, 2025 (Middle Eastern Time), Israel used Air Force fighters and drones to attack Iran in an extensive aerial barrage that destroyed hundreds of key Iranian sites. Israel’s attack on Iran was prompted by recent intelligence reports indicating that Iran may be days away from being able to acquire nuclear weapons.

Over the past few months, the United States has been trying to resolve the crisis peacefully through diplomacy, but in recent days Iran has rejected all peace efforts. A week before Israel’s attack on Iran, representatives of Iran’s senior political and military leadership issued statements promising to destroy both Israel and the US if they acquired nuclear weapons.

President Trump gave Iran 60 days to strike a deal to dismantle their nuclear weapons efforts, and on the 61st day Israel decided they had no choice but to act. During Israel’s overnight offensive, the IDF destroyed many of Iran’s nuclear development sites, targeting key energy storage facilities, radar and anti-aircraft missile batteries, ballistic missiles and launchers, in addition to Iran’s top military and political leaders. Israeli intelligence discovered that Iran’s top military leaders were meeting in a single location in Tehran to plan their response, and Israel used the opportunity to evacuate them. It appears that Israel was able to expel 9-12 senior Iranian government officials in addition to about 30 military leaders on the first night of the attack.

Additionally, it is now known that during Israel’s attack on Iran, the IDF was able to take out 9 senior Iranian scientists working on their nuclear weapons program. This happened because Israeli intelligence was able to track these scientists as they traveled over the past few years. It reminds Israel of taking out Lebanon’s Hezbollah leadership with exploding pagers. Clearly, Israel had been planning this brilliant attack scenario for a long time.

Following Israel’s attack on Iran, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard (IRG) forces eventually responded by sending about 100 small drone suicide bombers towards Israel, but the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) succeeded in taking them all out before they reached Israeli territory.

However, perhaps the most incredible drone operation during Israel’s attack on Iran was a series of IDF drone strikes that were all coordinated and initiated from Iran itself. A large group of Israeli Mossad intelligence agents and IDF soldiers worked together on Iranian territory to establish drone bases in the Iranian mountains and coordinate drone strikes to coincide with IDF air force strikes. They also had multiple drones hidden in a number of trucks, which were already positioned next to the main target area. The drones were used to take out Iran’s missile batteries, in addition to some of their larger ballistic missiles, which could form the basis of a quick response to any Israeli attack. As a result, no ballistic missiles were fired into Israel during or immediately after the operation.

During Israel’s attack on Iran, President Netanyahu said in a televised speech that the Israeli Air Force was part of an operation called “Rising Lion”. The following night, Iran responded by sending 3 waves of hundreds of ballistic missiles at various locations in Israel, mostly in civilian populated areas. Both the US and Israel shot down most of these missiles, but some went through and others were intercepted, but debris from interceptor strikes still left damage on the ground. As of this writing, Iranian strikes have killed at least 24 Israeli civilians and injured as many as 500. These figures are only approximate, as many damaged buildings have not been thoroughly searched for dead or injured people trapped in the rubble.

At the time of Iran’s ballistic missile barrage, Israel was still attacking Iran. Reports say that the IDF Air Force now has air superiority over Iran. This comes after Israel took away all of Iran’s anti-aircraft missile batteries and virtually neutralized Iran’s air force. In the dead of night, 70 Israeli planes attacked Tehran without any significant response from the IRG. As a result, hundreds of targets were taken out in and around Tehran. Video shows Israeli attack on Tehran here. Reports indicate that Iranian citizens are fleeing Tehran due to the intensity of the bombing. In recent days, both President Netanyahu and President Trump have warned the Iranian people to turn away from Tehran. Videos show that all the highways outside the city are completely jammed due to abandoned cars.

In less than a week, Israel destroyed the IRG and Iran’s leadership. Reports indicate that Iran’s military is on the run and Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is in hiding. Although Iran is still able to launch some ballistic missiles at Israel, their number is dramatically reduced daily as Israel actively seeks out and destroys their missile launchers. No one in Iran expected how an Israeli attack could so quickly defeat the Iranian military and remove such high levels of government and military leadership.

At the time of this writing, President Trump is sending more aircraft carrier groups to the Middle East and acquiring more fighters, bombers and refueling planes from the United States for a possible strike on Iran’s remaining nuclear facility at Fordow. The site is located in the mountains southwest of Tehran and the main nuclear development site is buried deep in the rocky hills. Only the US could take this facility with its 30,000 pound bunker buster bombs without actually having military troops on the ground to attack it.

It is clear that Iran will be very vulnerable to the IDF air force and drones as the Israeli attack on Iran continues. Israel will repeatedly attack all of Iran’s nuclear development facilities and remove the remaining Iranian leadership to completely neutralize the Iranian threat. If President Netanyahu and Trump decide to cooperate to destroy Iran’s remaining nuclear sites, including its infrastructure, Iran could be completely defeated and unable to support or finance terrorism in the region for years to come.

Israel’s war in recent months to take out the Iranian proxy terrorist groups of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis was the first part of an effort to completely eliminate Iran’s sponsorship of terror against the Jewish people. All these terrorist groups have, over the years, been financially supported by Iran and the oil-rich countries of the Arabian Peninsula. Israel’s attack on Iran was designed to stop all these attacks against them, whether directly from Iran or through their proxy groups.

Jesus said that in the end times the world will hear “wars and rumors of wars” (Matt. 24:6). Israel was miraculously reborn as a nation in 1948 after nearly 2,000 years of Jewish dispersion among nations. The Bible prophesied that the Jews would return to the land in the last days; However, their return will not be a time of peace, but of trouble and fear. Additionally, Ezekiel prophesied that Israel would be attacked by a group of nations led by Russia “in the latter years” (Ezek. 38-39). One of the countries predicted to accompany Russia in this attack was Persia, which is modern-day Iran (see Russian invasion) Although Iran is being defeated today, they will remain enemies of the Jewish people and will still participate in the end-time attack on Israel as prophesied by Ezekiel.
