After seven years of marriage, Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer are calling it quits. The 44-year-old announced the decision via a social media post, which was worded in a very nonchalant fashion. It seems that the couple have split on amicable terms and are planning to co-parent their 6-year-old son, Gene.
Amy posted a picture with Chris, in which they are sitting on a subway. The caption read, “Blah blah blah, Chris and I have made the difficult decision to end our marriage after 7 years. We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son. We would appreciate people respecting our privacy at this time.”
She continued the message, saying, “Blah blah blah, not because I dropped some lbs and thought I could bag a basket and not because he’s a hot James Beard award-winning chef who can still pull some hot tail. Amicable and all love and respect! Family forever.”
The post by the comedian received a lot of well-wishes and support, with celebrities like Sharon Stone, Olivia Munn, Sophia Bush, and Margo Price all lending their support. While most of them described their love through emojis, Bush had some friendly advice for the comedian. She wrote, “It’s so damn hard without having it be hard for the world to see… So when the world sees, I’ll just say be extra gentle with yourself. All love.”
Amy and Chris got married in 2018. They welcomed their son the next year. The couple have been dealing with divorce rumours throughout the 7 years of their marriage, with the media constantly speculating about their relationship. In 2021, Chris surprised Amy with a cake on her birthday that read, “I am leaving you,” on the top. While that was a sarcastic message, a couple of other things added fuel to the fire. In 2023, the couple spent an entire summer apart from each other. Amy travelled through Europe with comedian Jerry Seinfeld and his wife.
Just a couple of days before this announcement, Amy had posted a reel with Chris and their son. The caption read, “Whatever ends up happening with me and Chris has nothing to do with weight loss or autism. Fingers crossed we make it through.” The post has now been deleted.
