James Cameron is looking forward to the release of his latest Avatar film, Avatar Fire and Ash, and for the film’s promotions in India, the director had a virtual conversation with director SS Rajamouli. As Rajamouli praised the new film with all his heart, Cameron promised to be there for him around the release of Varanasi in 2027. Rajamouli was also thrilled about the moral complexities of the new film as Cameron showed interest in visiting the set of Varanasi when the director is shooting “something fun.”
Shared on the YouTube channel of 20th Century Studios India, Cameron and Rajamouli’s chat started with the Titanic director acknowledging Rajamouli’s busy schedule. “You must be very busy with Varanasi now. If I can reciprocate when your new film is coming to market, please keep me in mind. I love to have a dialogue with other filmmakers,” Cameron said. Varanasi stars Priyanka Chopra, Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj in key roles.
SS Rajamouli was quick to thank the filmmaker and added, “You made me the first person, or probably the only person amongst 1.45 billion Indians to watch Avatar Fire and Ash, which feels very special.” Without missing a beat, James asked if he could visit Rajamouli’s set and the director was more than happy to welcome him. “I would love to come to your set. May I come to your set sometime and watch you create your magic?” James asked and Rajamouli immediately accepted his offer and said, “Not just me, and my unit, my entire industry will be thrilled.” Cameron added a playful condition, “Tell me when you are doing something fun… I don’t know something with tigers.”
Discussing the film SS Rajamouli shared his experience of watching Avatar Fire and Ash and described it as “an absolute pleasure.” He said, “Hats off to you for creating those complex sequences, those visuals, those characters… I can go on and on. I was like a child in the theatre watching them.”
Avatar Fire and Ash is the third film of the franchise that started in 2009. It is being speculated that the franchise might come to an end after this film, even though it was previously announced as a 5-film franchise.
Avatar Fire and Ash releases on December 19.
