Avatar Fire and Ash box office collection day 1: The highly-anticipated James Cameron film finally hit the theatres on December 19. Avatar is one of the biggest franchises in the world, with the first two films doing roaring business across the world, including India. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Avatar Fire and Ash opened at Rs 20 crore in India, despite the fan frenzy.
The film is facing tough competition from Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar. While the big visual spectacle had over 5200 shows in India on opening day, Dhurandhar still has around the same number of shows, despite the film being now in its third week. While Avatar Fire and Ash has opened to decent numbers, it is still way behind the franchise’s second instalment Avatar: The Way Of Water (2022), which opened at Rs 40.3 crore in India.
The sci-fi action adventure drama minted $43.1 million within just two days at the international box office, according to Deadline. It is to be noted that this does not include the film’s opening day collection in China, where the film could make a fortune. The publication estimated that the film could potentially make around $17 million in China alone on the opening day, thus taking its opening day numbers to $60 million.
It is yet to be seen how the film sustains in India, given that this has been a huge market for this franchise in the past. Avatar The Way of Water made Rs 391 crore back in 2022. It has 3,800 screens in India at the time of its release.
Besides Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, Avatar Fire and Ash also features Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, Oona Chaplin, Britain Dalton, Jack Champion, Kate Winslet, and Giovanni Ribisi.
