The world has finally been given a glimpse of the world of Marvel’s Wolverine, and it’s one soaked in viscera, as the debut trailer shown during a Sony State of Play was both incredibly violent and filled with X-Men villain cameos.
Marvel’s Wolverine is being developed by Insomniac Games, the team behind the incredible Marvel’s Spider-Man games. Fans had previously only been given a brief cinematic trailer for the game, with years passing without any news.
The September 24 Sony State of Play finally gave the world a proper look at Marvel’s Wolverine, as well as a release date, as the game is coming to PS5 in Fall 2026.
Marvel’s Wolverine Looks Amazing
The trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine shows a character who isn’t quite as nimble and reactive as Peter Parker or Miles Morales, but he makes up for it with vicious violence. This is a game that’s going to earn its high rating, as Wolverine is shown ripping and tearing enemies apart.
The trailer also confirmed some of the villains in the game. The cybernetic super soldiers he’s facing are likely the Marauders, a team of augmented mercenaries who have fought the X-Men on numerous occasions. He also tackles Omega Red, the Russian super-soldier, who is most recognizable from the Capcom fighting games.
Mystique also makes an appearance, using her trademark shape-shifting powers to fool people. The last shot shows Wolverine facing a massive Sentinel, which are hunting robots that seek the extinction of the mutant race.
A follow-up video confirmed that Wolverine is being portrayed by Australian actor Liam McIntyre, who is more closely associated with the DC universe. Despite being Canadian, Wolverine just can’t shake Australia, being played by Hugh Jackman in the Fox movies, and the version of the character from the X-Men animated pilot is also from a land down under.
The debut Marvel’s Wolverine trailer was packed with new information, and the fact that it’s only a year away is really exciting. The only concern is that loose “Fall 2026” window, as that translates to “as far away from Grand Theft Auto 6 as possible.” Not even the mighty X-Men are going to launch near that game.
