Everyone who loved Elvis Presley found him to be a polarising figure as well. The man was quite literally on top of the world of music as he dictated the rules of an entire genre. Apart from his career, Elvis’ marriage with Priscilla Beaulieu is another aspect of his life that has been discussed and analysed thoroughly. Priscilla recently came out with a new memoir about her life with the King and why she needed to write the book in question.
Priscilla made an appearance on The Late Show hosted by Stephen Colbert to promote her memoir titled ‘Softly As I Leave You’. Colbert asked about the idea behind the book and its title, and Priscilla replied, “It’s really about my life with Elvis and how difficult it was to leave him. So it’s all there, and it was a very difficult book for me to write. He was the love of my life, and the type of life we had was very fast, but it was his life. I did it because I have a lot to say, and I thought that people would be interested to hear about my life, how I handled it and, of course, my relationship with Elvis. People have been asking me about doing a book for so long, so I thought that it was finally time.”
She continued with her reasons and said, “I wanted to tell everyone the story, and I wanted to get it off my chest. I wanted to clear some things up, like, for example, I didn’t leave him because I didn’t love him; I love him to this day. The lifestyle was just very difficult; I had a little girl, and I had guys all around me all the time. There were about six of them around, and it was completely a guy’s world, and I kind of felt a bit left out.” The actor and businesswoman added that her life with Elvis made her realise that she had to find something of her own.
“I quickly realised that I had to do something for myself. So I started taking dance classes, and then I started going to the gym. I loved it all, and I figured out that this is what I want to do. I started feeling confident and feeling like I can do something too,” said Priscilla. She even commented on the Sofia Coppola film made on her life, and she said that she really liked the film but wished that the director had more time to complete the story. She said something along the same lines about the film Elvis, directed by Baz Luhrmann, and claimed that “it could have been better.”
