WWE Smackdown Highlights: The WWE has been kind of crazy ever since Summerslam. Married couples choosing the ring to settle their scores instead of a Steve Harvey-hosted show. Old horses returning to lay down the law, and veterans taking their last breath in before hanging up their cleats. This week’s episode of Smackdown was no different, as we saw old alliances come into play and newer ones crack under pressure.
The current WWE Men’s Champion Cody Rhodes got into the ring with Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker to give them some unsolicited advice. He said, “I grew up the son of a Booker, and I grew up around people like him (Paul Heyman). I studied all of them, and I saw it all. You could always tell what they were doing or why they were doing it. No one has figured out who Paul Heyman is loyal to, but the one thing I can guarantee is it isn’t you.”
This obviously did not sit well with Bron, who took his shirt off, ready for a fight. Cody followed suit and took his jacket off. Even though it was 2 against 1, the champion attacked both men, and he seemed to have a handle on it for a while, until Bron took him out. The two men sized their prey up, but just as they got ready to strike, Randy Orton came running down the entry ramp. He took both men out and hugged Rhodes before handing him his title.
The next PLE (premium live event) on the WWE calendar is the Crown Jewel, an event born out of WWE’s strong relationship with Saudi Arabia. But for the first time since its inception in 2018, the event will take place outside of the Middle East and in Perth, Australia. While the entire card for the event isn’t out yet, John Cena is likely to face AJ Styles at the event. The two men had an incredible series of matches during the feud in 2016 and 2017. Cena even paid his opponent a tribute by hitting Logan Paul with the Styles Clash in a recent match.
In other news, Sami Zayn successfully defended his US title, and Tiffany Straton defended her Women’s title against Nia Jax and Jade Cargill. Seth Rollins and Cody are also bound to line up against each other at PLE, although none of their championships will be on the line except the Crown Jewel Men’s title currently held by Rollins.
Crown Jewel will take place on October 11 and will stream live on Netflix at 5:30 pm IST.
