We are right in the middle of the wedding season, and production house A24 has just released a teaser for their new relationship film, The Drama. The lead stars include Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, and they are the ones who are preparing for the most important day of their lives. But from the very beginning of the teaser, the two don’t seem that excited about their wedding; in fact, it is quite the opposite.
The teaser starts with Zendaya and Robert meeting with their wedding photographer. She is the first one to notice the palpable tension between the two. She asks them to get on their feet in order to shake some of those nerves off and asks them some questions about each other. While posing for the pictures, the couple seems to be saying all the right things, but their faces tell a different story. What follows is a montage of shots, during which they seem plenty happy, but not for long.
Last-moment jitters, a bloody nose, awkward wedding toasts, and several outbursts later, we return to the same shot of them getting a picture clicked. A long and hard road awaits the characters before they can finally tie the knot, if they are able to.
Even if the wedding does end up in shambles, the marketing team for the film have gone all out trying to spread the word about the film. They took an engagement ad out in the Boston Globe, just a day before the release of the teaser. The ad featured the names of Zendaya and Pattinson’s characters and a photo of Zendaya posing with the engagement ring. It soon went viral on social media.
This will be Pattinson’s second consecutive romantic drama, as his last film was the Lynne Ramsay directorial Die My Love, also starring Jennifer Lawrence. Zendaya, on the other hand, was last seen in Luca Guadagnino’s The Challengers, starring Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor.
