One of the most exciting action film franchises is retuning to the theatres with a new film and an ensemble cast. The teaser for Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping has been released and the dystopian nation of Panem is again sending their champions for the infamous to-the-death tournament.
The teaser of the film opens with a shot of a compound, where all the champions are gathered as the rules of the tournament are announced to them by Drusilla Sickle, played by veteran actor Glenn Close. The scenic valleys and forests seem a lot less attractive when one realises that kids will now have to battle it out, until one of them survives the tournament, which is defined by Sickle as a “glorious reaping.”
This time around all districts have sent twice the number of tributes (champions) hence making the competition that much challenging. But this also means that apart from the yearly salary, a house in the Victors Village and a lifetime supply of food, the winner will get “twice the glory,” but it hasn’t been specified in what way. Having 48 instead of 24 tributes is actually called the Second Quarter Quell.
The whole tournament started because the nation of Panem led a failed rebellion against the Capitol almost a century ago. Since then all the 12 districts of the nation elect tributes to participate in the tournament, and the whole thing is televised. The movie series is based on the original book series, penned by Suzanne Collins. The first movie was helmed by Gary Ross, and the cast of the film included Stanley Tucci, Wes Bentley, Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Elizabeth Banks.
The new film has been directed by Francis Lawrence, the cast of The Hunger Games Sunrise on the Reaping includes Joseph Zada, Elle Fanning, Jesse Plemons, Mckenna Grace, Maya Hawke, Kieran Culkin, and Glenn Close.
